Capital Sun Group and Casaplex, LLC are developing a group purchasing PV power program for the Brookland Neighborhood of Washington, DC. This program includes offering a creative performance-based incentive financing package for those who wish to have rooftop solar but are short of funds during the COVID19 pandemic. This relationship with Casaplex has grown over the years as the two principals have worked together on numerous projects including the NiagaraAX migration effort for a GSA Northeast Region 1 Contract. NiagaraAX Framework® is a software platform used to manage and control diverse mechanical/lighting/security systems and devices regardless of manufacturer or protocol. For managing a smart building, cloud-based Niagara provides visualization, integration, control and archiving of data, which enables monitoring and coordination, analysis and budgeting of a region’s federal buildings for purposes of economy and efficiency. GSA buildings that Nunez completed as Project Manager to date include Burlington Federal Building, Post Office and Courthouse, Burlington, VT; Norris Cotton Federal Building, Manchester NH, and United States Federal Court House, Springfield, MA. One of Nunez’s hybrid solar source heat pump projects, Enser - Morris Hybrid PV/T+HP System, was unanimously selected from a global field of over 400 applicants for the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) 2017 International Innovative Energy Project of the Year Award. He has also been working on a two-phased 1.2 MW Hybrid PV/Diesel Island Solar Power Irrigation Project that is located on Railroad Valley Farms in central Nevada. Phase I was commissioned on April 17, 2019. When Phase II is completed, the single-axis tracking systems will provide 70+% of water pumping power for two mile-square sections consisting of eight pivot-irrigated plots of alfalfa. The total pumping capacity will be 8,000+ gallons per minute (505+ liters/second) 24/7 during the 10-month growing season yielding five cuttings. Mr. Nunez received his CEM in 2006 and is an AEE Life Member. His BA degree in Geography with a Chemistry minor is from the University of Denver. He also is a charter founding board member of the Chesapeake Climate Action Network (CCAN) and served for over three decades on the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) Customer Advisory Board acting as its chair for four years. Nunez also served as a Maryland-DC-Virginia-Solar Energy Industry Association board member and executive in its formative years back in the late 70s and 80s’. He lives with his wife and partner, Joan Simons, in Silver Spring, MD.
