Have you looked at Ecocell cellulose batts (https://www.cmsgreen.com/insulation/ecocell-batts)? I also thought Go Labs was planning to offer a wood fiber batt-type product, which might be worth checking into.
My apologies for taking so long to respond, Steve. I looked at the website for Ecocell - the problem is that I need just a few batts, and none of the alternatives to fiberglass or rigid foam seem to be available through retailers; pretty much large quantities and deal direct.
Hi Paul,
This company says it might have some remaining denim batts:https://www.acousticalsurfaces.com/wall_insulation/ultratouch.htm. Finding someone with a bit of leftover inventory is probably your best bet. Craigslist might be worth checking out as well. (For example,https://fortcollins.craigslist.org/mat/d/windsor-denim-cotton-insulation/7409987299.html.)
Thank you Steve! I've filled out a contact form, asking Acoustical Surfaces about leftover inventory near me, as well as their InsulGreen product. I've found one Lowes that has one bag of batts - I'll need to go about 20 miles out of my way to get it, but that may be my only alternative. Thanks for the CL link - those are R19 batts; my need is for 2x4 stud framed walls. I've only got two bays to deal with, and some other assorted areas that I'd like to stuff some extra in. I was working in my shop yesterday, putting up some radiant electric heating panels. There's old fiberglass batt in the ceiling - just touching it sends off a cloud of fiberglass dust. I was working with a silicone respirator with P100 filters - I wish fiberglass would just go the way of asbestos.
