Can Tyvek HouseWrap (or similar) be used to temporarily cover a roof?

There are very similar products called Synthetic Underlayments designed for this purpose. One is Grace Tri-flex, but there are dozens of similar brands you can find at any lumberyard. Some are good for six months unprotected and can then be left in place when the finished roofing is applied.

No, Tyvek housewrap is not designed to be used on roofs. It's not a good choice for the job you have in mind.

You might also consider specifying Zip sheathing (a type of OSB) for your roof. If the Zip sheathing seams are sealed with Zip System tape, your roof will be waterproof. The manufacturer of Zip sheathing permits the taped panels to be exposed to the weather for up to 120 days.
