Finishing a basement

loren1541| Posted inGeneral Questionson

Hello,

I recently moved into a home that was built in 1997. It has poured basement walls and one section of the basement was partially framed by the previous owner. The part that was not framed was the poured concrete foundation. We would like to go ahead and finish the project, however we weren’t sure the best way to finish the walls with the exposed poured foundation. We were thinking of using furring strips and hanging paneling. This basement does not appear to have any moisture issues, but we plan on using a dehumidifier just in case. It’s been a very rainy season here in Ohio and we haven’t had any issues with weeping or dampness. We did go ahead and apply a sealant to the walls just to be sure. What other things should we be considering? Do we really need to think about French drains etc. if we haven’t had any issues with water?
