Ventilated attic fan disabling?
I have an automatic attic fan very high up in the rafters. It runs in the winter when it’s 15 degrees (zone 4a / zone 5a border – KC, MO – v cold in winter & v hot in summer). I can only turn it off via switch @ electric box, which also turns off the garage door. If I understand correctly, the fan is not useful anyway. Do I call a roofer to disable it? Called several electricians who “don’t do that”. Thanks for the informative articles & advice.

Kaysuit,
1. If you are able to climb into the attic, find the fan and see if it is plugged into an outlet or hard-wired. If it is plugged into an outlet, unplug it.
2. If it is hard-wired, you can disconnect the power cord if you know how to do so safely. If you don't know how to do so safely, call an electrician and explain that you want to remove the power cord from a hard-wired fan so that the fan is permanently disabled.
