Insulating a Basement Window Well
Hi hope all is well. I have recessed basement windows in a concrete wall (picture attached). If I attach 2 inches of rigid foam on interior of window well and then attach 1/2 drywall even without furring strips I think it would be too thick. Wouldn’t this also invite insects from outside into the rigid foam or cause drywall to rot? Do I insulate the wall and not the window well and just seal around the opening?

I've glued foam to foundation (as much as there is room for) and run drywall to the window. This is easier if you have new windows as you can order them with drywall channel.
Make sure to tape the seams of the foam and seal it against the window with some canned foam.
The foam in this case protects your drywall as it separates it from the cold damp foundation. This is the key to preventing mold on drywall.
