How to insulate a steel beam

Phobos| Posted inGreen Building Techniqueson

I am self building towards a passiv house standard. I have a 6m triple glazed patio door and a steel beam over (likely to be an rsj). How would you insulate the beam either side so that I avoid condensation inside. The walls are 350mm block work cavity with 100mm insulation, plaster on the inside and rendered on the outside.

Phobos, it's best to have the steel entirely on the interior of the thermal layer, or as close as possible. Is your wall insulation on the interior or exterior?
