Overhang size for a clerestory window in Atlanta (zone 3A)

Federico Feldstein| Posted inEnergy Efficiency and Durabilityon

Hi,
i have two rows of clerestory windows facing south in Atlanta (zone 3A) and would like advice on the size for an overhang that will block the direct sun during the hot summer weather.
Windows are 2 by 5 each.

Thanks!
Federico

    Federico,
The size is ultimately a judgment call, because the amount of shading you choose will always involve compromise.

There is an important factor in the calculation that you didn't mention: the distance from the top of the window to the soffit.

One of the best ways to approach this issue is to use an online design tool developed by Christopher Gronbeck. Here is the link:Overhang Design.
