Ideal garage door insulation

brianvarick| Posted inGeneral Questionson

Ideal has a proprietary insulation they call Intellicore which is 2” of injected polyurethane . Is there any reason to believe this performs anywhere near the claimed r value of 18.4? My garage is going to be conditioned so if it’s better than the “regular” 2” insulation I will go with it. Has anyone looked more into this and has more information?

Here's some more information, the biggest difference is that one is injected. I'm not sure how they get to R18 with closed cell though.

In summary: Might not want to fully trust the R-value. Air sealing is more important.

Thanks for the link, that’s just what I was looking for. I am not going to lose any sleep over what insulation I choose and try my best to air seal the door for the best results.

The way I see it the R value of the insulation that is wrapped in steel is almost irrelevant.

The steel conducts the heat so well the insulation doesn’t do anything but stop the door from rattling.
